Google Doodle Buckyball & Other Google Doodles Over The Years
Google Doodles are only for special occasions and the latest doodle the ‘Buckyball’ marked the 25th anniversary of its discovery. Its a spherical dome of exotic molecules of carbon discoverd in 1985 by Buckminster Fuller.
The animated logo yesterday replaced the O in Google with an orange buckyball. Users could twist and turn the ball by scrolling across the logo. Its official name is “Buckminsterfullerene”.
There have been many Google Doodle’s over the years. If your a Frequent Google user you would have played Pac-Man back in May. The Pac-Man design which went public on Friday, May 21, 2010, was celebrating the 30th birthday of Pac-Man. It was the first doodle to be fully interactive.
The first time a doodle was used in August 1998 for the Burning Man festival. The second was in October 1999 and was a Halloween doodle. Later that year a ‘Christmas Card’ doodle on Christmas. It featured flakes and a snowman drifting on the Google logo.
Mother’s and Father’s day doodle’s were used in May and June 2000. On June 5, 2010 a hologram was used to honor Dennis Gabor, inventor of holograms.
A spooky doodle was used last month to celebrate the 213th birth anniversary of Mark Shelley, Author of Frankenstein.
